💬 THINK: Creating a Digital Meal Plan
Another new resource in the Evidence Locker. You're Welcome! 😉
There’s no doubt that too much screen time can be harmful. As this article from The Mayo Clinic explains, “Too much screen time and regular exposure to poor-quality programming have been linked to obesity, inadequate sleep schedules and insufficient sleep, behavior problems” and more.
We believe that unhealthy digital behaviors can also affect our ability to evaluate information. At Harvard, they’ve discovered that persistent stress may actually rewire your brain. When continuous exposure to stress keeps the “fight or flight” part of your brain active, the other parts of your brain, that deal with higher-order thinking, begin to atrophy. From an information literacy standpoint, the more suspicious and triggering content we come in contact with, the more difficult it is to recognize and seek out “the good stuff.”
With that in mind, we created this👇🏼 activity, and related infographic, to help Digital Detectives learn how to plan their time online in a way that makes it more likely they’ll be engaging with quality, fact-based content. We think this activity could be adapted for learners in grades 4-12. Directions for locating this resource in the Evidence Locker can be found below.
