Ever heard the term “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”? Turns out that may be true when it comes to mis-, dis- and mal- information, too! “Prebunking” refers to the strategy of exposing young people to repeated content about how false information works, alongside several harmless examples. This repeated exposure works as an intellectual antibody, effectively inoculating people against the potentially harmful content they may connect with in the future. All of this has us thinking about “prebunking” playlists or choice boards that could be used repeatedly as part of research units throughout the school year.
